The Deerfield Valley has quietly become one of southern Vermont’s best spots for craft beer and spirits. Half a dozen taprooms and tasting rooms sit within 15 minutes of Valley View Villa – with a few more worth the drive – each with its own personality and each worth a visit for reasons beyond just the drinks. Here’s where to go, what to order, and what to expect.
Snow Republic Brewery – West Dover
Snow Republic is the closest brewery to Valley View Villa, about 3 minutes down Route 100. It’s a casual, high-energy spot with island-inspired decor that somehow works in a Vermont mountain town. The vibe is laid-back and dog-friendly, and the outdoor seating fills up fast on warm days.
The beer list leans heavy on IPAs, but they rotate styles regularly. What catches most people off guard is the food. The Inferno Chicken Sandwich – crispy maple buffalo chicken with peppers and blue cheese coleslaw – has a genuine following, and the fries are unreasonably good. Pizza is available on weekends only.
They host live music regularly, which makes it a solid evening stop after a day on the mountain or the trails.

Valley Craft Ales – Wilmington
Valley Craft Ales opened in 2022 inside the Old Red Mill, a landmark 1828 sawmill building right on the Deerfield River in downtown Wilmington. The space is massive – 10,000 square feet – with a 600-square-foot deck overlooking the river that’s one of the best outdoor drinking spots in the valley.
The beer is brewed on-site and the pizza is New Haven-style apizza, which is a thinner, slightly charred crust that’s different from what you’ll find elsewhere in the area. They also do gelato, sandwiches, and a rotating tap list that keeps things interesting. Live music is a regular fixture, especially on weekends.
The building doubles as an inn with 15 rooms upstairs, which is a nice option if you’re hosting a group and need overflow lodging. But even without staying over, it’s worth the 15-minute drive from Valley View Villa just for the river deck and a pizza.

Beer Naked Brewery – Hogback Mountain
Beer Naked is the wild card. It sits at 2,410 feet on Hogback Mountain between Wilmington and Brattleboro, making it New England’s highest-altitude brewery. The views from the outdoor seating are genuinely jaw-dropping – on a clear day you can see into three states.
The beer is brewed with New England heirloom hops grown by Hoppy Valley in Pownal, VT, which gives it a local character you won’t find in most taprooms. The wood-fired pizza is the main food draw. The Honey Pear Pie – ricotta, maple bacon, gorgonzola, and honey drizzle – sounds odd but works. Cash is king here (they have an ATM), and hours skew toward weekends and afternoons.
This is a destination stop, not a quick pop-in. Budget an afternoon, bring a blanket, and plan to sit outside. They also run live music on Saturday evenings through the winter and into spring.

Station Tap Room – Mount Snow Base Area
The Station Tap Room sits right at the base of Mount Snow, making it the default post-ski beer stop. It’s a no-frills taproom with a solid rotation of craft beers – both Vermont locals and popular nationals – plus bar food that hits the spot after a day on the slopes.
The vibe is casual and unpretentious. Outdoor seating is available in warmer months, and they occasionally bring in live music. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying longer than you planned because someone ordered another round. Open primarily on weekends and during ski season, so check before you go.

⏰ Fri – Sun (hours vary seasonally – check Mount Snow’s website)
Deerfield Bar & Bottle – West Dover
This one isn’t a brewery – it’s a craft cocktail bar and wine shop, and it’s one of the more polished drinking experiences in the valley. Deerfield Bar & Bottle specializes in hand-squeezed juices, house-made syrups, and cocktails built with local Vermont spirits. The charcuterie and cheese boards are excellent alongside a glass of wine or an old fashioned.
It’s 21+ only (no kids, no exceptions), which gives it a quieter, adults-only energy that’s rare in the area. Small space, so it can fill up quickly – but that’s part of the charm. It’s also attached to Ten Tables, a reservation-only dining experience worth checking out if you’re looking for something more elevated.

Vermont Distillers – Hogback Mountain
Right next door to Beer Naked on Hogback Mountain, Vermont Distillers is a family-run craft distillery in the former Hogback Ski Area base lodge. They’re best known for their Metcalfe’s Maple Cream Liqueur, but the lineup also includes Catamount Vodka, flavored bourbons, and seasonal apple spirits – all made with Vermont-sourced ingredients.
The tasting room offers complimentary samples, plus a cocktail bar where you can sit on the deck with a maple old fashioned and take in the same three-state views that Beer Naked gets. Dogs are welcome, and the whole operation runs on solar power. Pair it with a Beer Naked visit and you’ve got a solid Hogback Mountain afternoon.

A few more spots that are worth knowing about, especially if you’re up for a short drive beyond the valley:
Whetstone Beer Co. (Brattleboro, 25 mi) – Brewing since 2006 in a converted railway station on the Connecticut River. Over 13 canned varieties, a solid Burger Bar, and a riverside biergarten that’s one of the best outdoor drinking spots in southern Vermont.
Hermit Thrush (Brattleboro, 25 mi) – Specialists in sour and wild-fermented beers using local yeast, hops, and farm fruits. If you’re into sours, this is a destination. Barrel-aged bottles are sought after and hard to find outside the tasting room. Open daily 11 AM – 7 PM.
Honora Winery (Jacksonville, 20 mi) – For the wine drinkers in your group. Small-batch wines including creative fruit blends in a quiet, low-key tasting room. Shares space with the former J’ville Craft Brewery (now closed).
The Snow Barn (West Dover, 3 mi) – Not a brewery, but a live music bar with cold beer, pizza, and sandwiches. Open mic on Fridays, touring acts on weekends. It’s the closest thing to a music venue in the valley.
Plan Your Taproom Day
The Deerfield Valley spots work as a single-day crawl if you pace yourself and designate a driver. Start at Snow Republic over lunch, swing by Deerfield Bar & Bottle for a cocktail, head to Valley Craft Ales for afternoon beers and pizza on the river deck, then finish on Hogback Mountain with Beer Naked and Vermont Distillers side by side for sunset. Total driving time across all stops is about 30 minutes.
For guests staying at Valley View Villa, Snow Republic and Station Tap Room are the obvious apres-ski stops. Valley Craft Ales is the move for a date night or a group dinner with live music. Deerfield Bar & Bottle is for when the adults want a quiet evening out. The Hogback Mountain duo – Beer Naked plus Vermont Distillers – is for that perfect afternoon when you want to sit on a mountain with a drink and just look at Vermont. And if you’ve got a full day and want to explore further, the Brattleboro brewery run is one of the best half-day trips in the area.
