Best Coffee and Baked Goods Near Mount Snow

Coffee and baked goods from a local cafe near Mount Snow Vermont

The mornings here are the quiet part. Snow on the ground, frost on the windows, and that first cup of coffee hits different when you’re staring at mountains instead of a laptop screen. Valley View Villa has a fully stocked kitchen and a coffee maker ready to go – but some mornings you want someone else to do the work. And the coffee and bakery scene around Mount Snow is better than most people expect.

Here are the spots we keep going back to.

Sticky Fingers Bakery – The One Everyone Talks About

There’s a reason Sticky Fingers has over 250 reviews and people still line up before the doors open. The cinnamon rolls are the main event – hand-sized, made from scratch every morning, dripping with icing while they’re still warm. They’ve won “Best of Vermont” more than once, and they earn it.

The croissants are just as good – buttery, flaky, the kind that shatter when you bite into them. They also do blueberry muffins, apple turnovers, sourdough bread on weekends, and homemade ice cream in warmer months. It’s a small, no-frills bakery on Route 100 where the product speaks for itself.

The catch: they close when product sells out, and on ski weekends that can be early. Get there at 7 AM if you want the full selection. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Trail 87 – Morning Cafe Meets Chef-Driven Kitchen

Most people know Trail 87 for the Chicken Shawarma Bowl and the French Onion Burger. Fewer people know it doubles as a legit morning cafe – and the coffee program alone is worth the stop.

They serve beans from 1A Roasters, a local specialty roaster, and the barista actually knows what they’re doing. Espresso drinks, pour-overs, and a solid chai. On the food side, think breakfast wraps, egg sandwiches, pastries, and yogurt bowls – nothing heavy, just enough to fuel a morning on the mountain. The vibe is relaxed and modern, more coffee lounge than diner counter.

Morning hours run Thursday through Sunday only (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, dinner-only on Mondays), so plan accordingly.

Village Roost – The One to Linger In

If you want a place to actually sit down with your coffee and not feel rushed, Village Roost in downtown Wilmington is the move. Fireplace, leather couches, a back lounge that feels like someone’s living room – it’s the closest thing to a Brooklyn-style cafe you’ll find in the Deerfield Valley.

The maple latte is the signature, and it’s earned that status. Made with real Vermont maple syrup, not flavored syrup from a pump. The breakfast burrito is substantial, the curry fries are unexpectedly great, and the SAMMmich (their breakfast sandwich) is a local favorite. They also run a small marketplace selling Vermont-made goods – maple syrup, local wines, pantry items – which gives you something to browse while you wait.

The 15-minute drive from Valley View Villa is worth it, especially on a day when you’re headed to Wilmington anyway for groceries or shopping.

Starfire Bakery & Roastery – The Hidden Gem

This is the spot most visitors don’t know about yet, and locals want to keep it that way. Starfire Bakery started as a home operation, grew into a brick-and-mortar on Route 9, and recently merged with 1A Coffee Roasters into a shared space. The result is the best bakery-plus-coffee combination in the area.

The kouign-amann – a buttery, caramelized French pastry – is the star. The croissants (sweet and savory), bear claws, and Persian love cake are all excellent. Everything is made in small batches, so the selection changes daily. On the coffee side, 1A Roasters roasts weekly on a Diedrich roaster and rotates single-origin beans. The flat whites and lattes here are serious.

Like everywhere else, items sell out early. Pre-orders are available if you plan ahead. It’s on Route 9 heading toward Brattleboro – slightly off the main Route 100 corridor but only about 15 minutes from Valley View Villa.

Coffee Barn Cafe – The Quick Stop

Not every morning calls for a destination. Sometimes you just need a solid coffee, a breakfast sandwich, and to get moving. Coffee Barn on Route 100 is that place. It’s small, no-frills, and efficient – bagels, egg sandwiches, espresso drinks, and house-baked goods. The lox bagel is generous and well-made if you’re in the mood.

The real bonus: they have a second location inside the Mount Snow base lodge. On ski days, you can grab a coffee before hitting the lifts without making a separate trip. It won’t change your life, but it’ll start your morning right.

One Thing to Know

Almost every cafe and bakery on this list is closed at least one day mid-week – usually Tuesday, Wednesday, or both. If you’re arriving on a Tuesday, your best bets are Coffee Barn (open daily) and Valley View Villa’s own kitchen. Check hours before you drive, and if a place is open, go early. The good stuff sells out.
