Mountain Biking at Mount Snow – Lift-Served Trails and Downhill Runs

Mountain biking trails at Mount Snow bike park in summer

Mount Snow was one of the first ski resorts in the East to go all-in on summer mountain biking, and it shows. The bike park has been operating for over two decades, refining trails every year. Today it runs 30+ trails spread across the mountain – from mellow green flow trails for first-timers to steep, rocky lines that will test anyone.

The concept is simple: you and your bike ride the Bluebird Express chairlift to the summit or mid-station, then ride down. No climbing required. That means you spend your energy on the fun part and get in three to four times the downhill runs you’d manage pedaling uphill.

The Trail Network

Mount Snow’s bike park breaks down into three zones:

🟢 Green trails like Quill and Bucky’s Ride roll through wide, smooth corridors with banked turns. These are genuinely beginner-friendly – not watered-down versions of harder trails. If your group has first-timers, they’ll be comfortable here.

🔵 Blue trails are where most intermediate riders spend their day. Inferno and Long John are the classics – fast flow with tabletops, berms, and optional features you can hit or ride around. Once you’re linking these runs together, you’ll understand why people drive hours for this park.

⚫ Black and double-black trails get steep and technical. Expect rock gardens, drops, tight trees, and exposed roots. The Carinthia side of the mountain has some of the gnarliest terrain in the East.

Gear and Rentals

You don’t need to bring your own bike. The Mountain Bike Shop at the base lodge rents full-suspension downhill bikes, body armor, and full-face helmets – everything you need for a day in the park. Reservations are recommended on summer weekends.

If you’re bringing your own rig, a full-suspension bike with at least 150mm travel is ideal for the blue and black trails. Hardtails work on the green trails but you’ll feel every root on anything steeper.

Lessons

Mount Snow’s bike school runs group and private lessons for all ages. If you’ve never ridden lift-served downhill, a half-day lesson is worth the investment – the instructors teach body position, braking technique, and how to read trail features that look intimidating but ride smooth once you know the line.

Pricing and Passes

Expect to budget around $60–80 for a full-day lift pass, depending on whether you buy in advance online (cheaper) or at the window. Half-day passes are available and make sense if you’re arriving after lunch. Bike rentals run $80–120 for a full-suspension downhill rig with body armor and a full-face helmet included. A package deal combining lift pass + rental + helmet typically saves $15–20 over buying everything separately.

Private lessons start around $150 for a two-hour session. Group clinics are more affordable at $60–80 per person and run most weekends. For families, the kids’ mountain bike camp is a half-day program that includes equipment, instruction, and supervised riding – a solid option if the adults want to ride the harder trails without worrying about the kids.
